Old fashioned birthday parties are the best say 800 mums
The vast majority of children's birthday parties are still held at home with traditional games like pass the parcel and pin the tail on the donkey. Party food like ice cream and jelly is still a must according 74% of over 800 mums who took part in a survey undertaken by new party directory site www.childrenspartydirectory.co.uk.
A whopping 86% would have pass the parcel at their child's party, whilst 67% would play pin the tail on the donkey. Musical chairs would be the game of choice by 76% of parents and 91% would give a slice of birthday cake wrapped in a napkin to each guest as a going home present.
Most parties (62%) are still held at home, with the second most popular venue being an indoor play centre of some kind. However, mums are not doing everything themselves: the cake is most likely to be bought from a supermarket (44%), with only a third of mums still baking it themselves.
Jane Manson, Director of Children's Party Directory, says: "The survey found that the 'party active' age for children was between 6 and 10 years, with 39% in this age group attending up to 10 parties a year and 29% attending up to 15 parties a year. But even before they start school, children are starting to become party animals with a quarter of children under 6 attending up to 5 parties a year.
