Review of the new ‘Bookaboo’ DVD
By Ruby Speechley
Bookaboo is the loveable rock puppy from the popular Bafta award winning show on CiTV. Now you can enjoy seven episodes on a brand new DVD. Seven celebrities, including Alesha Dixon, Fern Britton and Robson Green, meet Bookaboo to read him a story. You see he ‘just can’t play without a story a day!’
I sat down with my six year old son and his four year old friend to watch this DVD. Very soon, both children were silent, entranced by the wonderful stories. As the celebrity turns each page, the characters and text are brought to life in animation.
The first visitor to Bookaboo’s luxury touring bookabus is none other than rock legend Meat Loaf. His story telling skills had us all enthralled, what an inspired choice – definitely my favourite! He tells the very tender story of The Lamb Who Came for Dinner. As soon as the story is over, Bookaboo is ready to whiz off on stage and play drums to the cheering crowd.
The DVD is definitely a hit in our house - as soon as the last episode had finished, both children wanted to watch it all over again!
If your child hasn’t yet discovered the joy of listening to or reading stories, this DVD is sure to ignite that desire and help establish a lifelong pleasure. On a mission to get everyone around the country enjoying a story a day, Bookaboo has donated 13,000 books to children in care under the age of 6, through partnership with Booktrust.
