‘I Want My Sledge!’ by Tony Ross Little Princess book and DVD review

by Ruby Speechley

Little Princess is just like any other child except for a few tiny differences - she wears a crown, her parents are King and Queen and she lives in an enormous castle!

I sat down to watch ‘I Want My Sledge!’ with my five-year-old son. This was the first time he’d watched Little Princess and he was enthralled by it immediately. He was keen to read the book afterwards because he now knew the story.Lenny Henry #1

‘I Want My Sledge!’ is a delightful tale which tackles a common issue for all parents of princesses (and prince’s!) When Little Princess sees Chef’s shiny new sledge, she is suddenly no longer interested in the old one her Dad has lovingly made for her. Pester-power wins the King over and he buys Little Princess her own new sledge.Big and Small

But things don’t quite work out as Little Princess expected. She learns that sometimes we need to appreciate what we already have and that ‘new’ isn’t always better, even for a real princess.

The DVD runs for 11 minutes and can be found in a handy pocket at the back of the book. The television episode is taken from the award-winning animation, created by The Illuminated Film Company and features the voices of Jane Horrocks and Julian Clary.

RRP: £7.99 (inc VAT) from www.andersenpress.co.uk and all good book stores.
